BOOBAMARA. Gym-Auditorium Project

Boobamara aims to redefine urban environment to more humane and eco friendly. We are presenting you futuristic and effective bicycle system that may help in transforming a community into bike friendly, healthy, economically thriving and sustainable environment.

Our focus is on team work and aesthetics that makes people want to ride.

Boobamara is an organism / mechanism whose functioning entirely depends on action and interaction of its users. In fact, only team work can “vivify” the organism by producing electrical energy which is necessary for activities. The main energy source, used for sound and lights are powered by bicycle audience. It offers a possibility of creating an active audience that will provide electric energy for diverse events. This design inspires interaction and team work and raises awareness of pure energy production to everyday activities by exercising and participating in different cultural events at the same time. Directing the energy, the audience is included in the performance, it became an active criticism. Success of performance depends on team work, motivation, physical condition of the audience, as well as on the skills and abilities of performers to attract their attention. When the audience stops pedaling the performance is over.

Boobamara puts the audience and performers into a new relationship of interdependence, while enhancing the team work and community awareness. It also presents a polygon for social experiment of performers themselves where they can most directly contact with the audience and to examine the acceptance and reaction on their work.

We have chosen an abstract form of a simple ellipsoid which stands slightly uplifted from the ground.

Each bicycle is connected to a generator which converts the energy burned off by the exercisers to the electric energy. The average exerciser has the ability of producing 120 – 200 watts of electricity per hour. This energy is stored in a battery and is used for lighting and sound, so the mechanism is self- sufficient in terms of energy supply.

The lightweight, collapsible laminated wood structure is enclosed with a light envelope. The envelope itself is consisted of the fixed part made out of polycarbonate and the movable parts (wings) which are made out of the inflatable impregnated fabric. Each segment can be opened independently so the structure could be transformed from enclosed cocoon to fully open space.
All the components are prefabricated and the erection should last for two days. Within one month this concept could be put into practice, which is also an advantage.
